Professional Biography of Richard Kronick

Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Richard Kronick has been a professional writer and educator since 1970 and has been a self-employed writer, educator, and communications consultant since 1985. He specializes in technical, marketing, and media writing about engineering, architecture, medical products, and computers. Mr. Kronick holds a bachelor's degree in theatre and English from the University of Minnesota and studied curriculum design for gifted children in a master's degree program at The University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Mr. Kronick's approach to writing combines the straightforward writing style he developed as a technical writer with concepts on learning and psychology derived from his work and study in curriculum development for gifted children. Mr. Kronick emphasizes that, in the broadest sense, all business writing should aim to teach the reader.

Mr. Kronick's strong interest in the built environment has led him to specialize in writing about architecture and for architects. His articles on architecture have appeared in Progressive Architecture, Old House Journal, Architecture Minnesota, MPLS. ST. PAUL (a city magazine), and ARTS (a magazine for members of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts). He edited major sections of Minnesota 1900, a book published by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and is working on his own book, Historic Architecture in the Minnesota River Valley, to be published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press. For many years, Mr. Kronick has been active in the Society of Architectural Historians (SAH), holding the positions of Minnesota chapter newsletter editor, Minnesota chapter president, and national newsletter editor. He often lectures on and leads tours of historic architecture. Working directly for architects, Mr. Kronick writes reports, proposals, and marketing materials. Architectural proposals authored by him have won projects worth more than $200 million.

Mr. Kronick presents seminars that help business and technical writers, architects, engineers, and other professional people communicate effectively. Since 1986, he has presented more than 300 seminars to thousands of people in the US, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, The Netherlands, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong.
